★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 172 reviews · from $52

Escape Taipei for Thousand Island Lake views, Bagua tea fields, Pinglin’s tea museum, and a lively local tea tasting in five hours.

“Nice way to spend some free time in Taipei. Good opportunity to see scenery and landscapes outside urban Taipei. Would've enjoyed seeing how tea is harvested, processed, made (surprised the museum didn't have a simple film showing this) rather than just verbal descriptions. The museum had interesting exhibits of old machines, samples of tea leaves, and lots of tea paraphernalia, but signage was predominantly in Chinese. Enjoyed the tea ceremony in Pingling. Recommended with qualifications. Don't expect a deep dive.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 34 reviews · from $1,009

A three-day private Taiwan tour from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake and Alishan, with mountain scenery, temples, forest trails, hotels, and breakfast.

Plus points - Sun Moon lake itself, Wen Wu temple, Holy Monk shrine and Tse-En pagoda on the first day. On the second, the mountains, the railway and the walk through Alishan. On the third day, Lukang old quarter. Throughout, the guide's excellent and most informative talks, including answers to specific questions. Negative points - Visit to paper factory replaced with rice wine brewery visit (too fast, uninteresting and the wine is foul!); the aboriginal village…”
